Air Filter Maintenance
The first and simplest step in maintaining your heating and air conditioning unit is to change the filter. The filter can be found in your home in your air handling cabinet. It’s typically a large vent that opens up in your house. We recommend every 30 days to keep maintaining high-quality airflow. If the filter is not changed regularly, dust particles will build up, not only will it add stress to the unit, trying to pull air through a clogged filter, but dust can also jam up fans and motors as it accumulates.
Ductwork
You should also check your ductwork regularly. Cracks or leaks in the ducts means you are not getting all of your cooler or warmer air directly where it needs to go. It can also build up condensation outside of the ducts, causing mold or mildew in your walls. Dirt or debris in or around the ducts hinders proper airflow, causing your unit to work harder than necessary to deliver air into your home.
Electrical Issues
Electrical issues with HVAC units are the number one cause of failure in the system. As much as 85% of all repairs done to an HVAC system is because of faulty electrical. While electrical wiring is durable, it’s not invincible. Corrosion, breakage, tripped breakers, etc. can all be cause for concern when checking through your heating and cooling system. It is imperative always to turn off the power supply when working on anything electrical as you don’t want to get hurt. Better yet, call the professionals!
Refrigerant
Last but not least, check your refrigerant. It absorbs the heat from indoors to cycle back and releases it outside. A properly maintained HVAC system should not contain any leaks or cracks in the lines. If one should occur, our technicians can replace the lines and save you from having to purchase a whole new system!
